How to Prepare for Interviews
Interview Preparation
Congratulations, your CV has done its job and you have been invited to interview!
Now it’s time to prepare.
Research
You should be sure that you know everything you can about the company. If you went through an agency the recruitment consultant will tell you who the interviewer(s) will be. Use LinkedIn to find about the interviewer’s own career. This way you will be able to talk at the level this interviewer expects. Perhaps the interviewer will be your future line-manager and that makes your research even more important.
Simple Things
Be certain of – the location of the interview. Check traffic and other things that could cause problems on your way to the interview. Prepare what you are going to wear – how business-like will you appear? Arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled time to allow for finding the room, settling down and preparing yourself.
Relax
As the interview starts you should be prepared to be open and honest and talk about yourself, your skills and achievements and why you want the job. Be yourself, be natural, be friendly – and at the same time remain professional.
Sell yourself
This is the time to explain clearly who you are, why your skills and experience make you a ‘fit’ for the job and what you will bring to the company. Don’t forget to ‘ask for the job’ which means to say clearly that you want the job and really want to work for that company. Your research will pay off now as you can clearly explain your reasons for this.
